Pop, Lock and Frock it!

October 29, 2015 / no comments

Now that wedding season has come to a close, you find yourself standing in front of a closet full of dazzling dresses…but will you ever wear them again? Think of all that time and money you spent hunting down each one and yet have only worn it once!

If this story sounds familiar, you are not alone. Many women spend countless hours shopping from store to store, only to leave aggravated or even worse – end up buying one over budget.

But what if we told you this scenario could change? What if there was a way you could have saved all that time and money while still attending the hottest events in celebrity style.  Well, guess what ladies, you can! Just a few weeks ago RSVP had the privilege of meeting with the lovely Lauren Merkley, Business Development Representative for the company, Rent Frock Repeat at (The Ottawa Wedding Show located in the EY Center).

Lauren explained, Rent a Frock Repeat is an online dress rental boutique based in Toronto, ON. Essentially, the company rents all kinds of frocks from high end designers to modest, yet stylish dresses, to women all over Canada!

How it Works:

step 1

Register – Sign up for free at rentfrockrepeat.com

step 2

Find A Frock – Once you’ve found a frock, select your preferred size, then select the day you want the dress to arrive & simply click “Rent It”. Get a backup size for only $10.

step 3

Wear & Return – On your return date, put your dress in the prepaid return envelope & drop off at your local Canada Post. You can also save on shipping by picking up & dropping off your dress at one of our showrooms. They take care of dry cleaning.

Want to try it on?

Rent a Frock Repeat offers free, private fittings at their showrooms. When you arrive, a RFR Stylist will be on site to assists you with selecting a frock fitted just for you!

Can’t come in?

They also offer phone & Skype consultations as well.

So how exactly does this tie into weddings you ask!?

RFR not only offers high-end dresses at a fraction of the price, but they also offer an amazing program that specifically caters to Canadian brides!  The “Something Borrowed” program is an innovative approach to help brides keep within their budget.

“We will provide you with a promotional and personal code, that you can pass along to your guests and to your wedding party. Then, as guests rent (and use the promotional code during the checkout process) you will earn 10% of each rental fee. This promo code will also help us ensure guests do not rent the same frock which means less drama on your special day!  When you are ready to rent,  simply email us and we will let you know how many “Frock Dollars” you’ve earned.” – RFR

As previously mentioned, RFR dry cleans all their dresses, so you don’t have to be worrying about spilling that glass of red wine. Now you and your bridesmaids are free to pop, lock and frock it on the d-floor all night!

Love and Laughter – A Perfect Blend

August 31, 2015 / no comments

August 1st,  2015,  was Lauren Palmer and Matthew Smith’s  big day. A wedding day loaded with a lot of heart and a lot of laughter.  An ideal combination for wedding photographer, Karen, of Love and Laughter Photography. Clearly, the focus of the day reflected the personalities of this couple. There was light-hearted fun, with lots of banter and goofing around, with touches of traditional, tender- hearted moments as well. At moments like these in the reception, not even Lauren, with her wide smile, could keep a dry eye as meaningful wishes were spoken.

08012015-44

Their ceremony and reception were held at one of RSVP’s top venues, The Ottawa Marriott, famous for their revolving Summit Restaurant, boasting singular views of the city.

Processed with Moldiv

It made perfect sense, then, that the bride and her bridal party prepare at their Marriott room perched high above the city. The photos speak of the importance of family to this young couple. Not just the bridesmaids sat in the room to join in the preparation, but Lauren’s Mom and two tiny nieces sat with Grandma as well.  They watched as Clarisse Make-Up added her glamorous touches to Lauren’s beaming face and Mandy Hair create the most beautiful and intricate up do for her.  While Lauren’s oldest niece, Willa, was given a flower to pin in her short bob.

08012015-6908012015-51

Simple, but very cute touches in the ceremony was the little flower girl, Willa Palmer, taking her job of scattering pink and purple rose petals down the aisle, very seriously.  Followed by Lauren’s two nephews, Zachary and Jackson, both shy but determined in their mission, delivering the rings to the bride and groom.

08012015-10908012015-103

Lauren and Matthew added a more serious and personal touch:  blending their wedding colours of plum and white sand in a clear vase, representative of their hearts and lives now intertwined. Vows were exchanged and officiated by Roger and Sheila.

08012015-145

Lauren’s bright bouquet of complimentary colours was designed by RSVP’s partner, Beaudry Flowers.  The less conventional and vibrant mix of zinnias, roses, lisianthus with wax flowers really complimented the bride’s personality as well as her strapless white gown.

08012015-237 08012015-182 08012015-219

I am guessing Lauren’s cheeks hurt the next day from all the wide grins and laughter. However, Matthew also had his own fun with “the boys.” For their photo shoot, the handsome groomsmen sported grey suits, purple ties and….umbrellas!  Both open and closed, this prop switched up the standard group shots. Leaping in the air with “brollies,” open their collective expression in reminiscent of “Bert” or Dick Van Dyke, in Mary Poppins.

08012015-209 08012015-203

The couple’s fun loving antics were again then highlighted later that day.

Lauren, jokingly, brandished the cake knife like a machete and then proceeded to pretend to aim for Matthew’s neck.  Contrary to the staged drama was the elegant cake itself on a chandelier-like cake stand. The one layer white wedding cake provided by J.S. Creations, was decorated with cascading white flowers and a simple purple ribbon at the base.

Wedding Days may have many of the same elements but they are, of course, never the same. Just as Lauren and Matthew, have their unique fit, and so created a day that suited their style, RSVP keeps in mind that your wedding day needs to be as individual as you are.

“Don’t Forget the Little Things…Like the Ring!”

August 19, 2015 / no comments

Driving by the Ottawa RA Centre on the morning of July 11, 2015, few people would know that inside the hall was being decked out in deep purple, grey and green decor. RSVP wedding planners were hard at work preparing for the bride, Claire Sutherland, and groom, Chris Riopelle and 132 of their guests who would arrive later that day.

The RA centre is a partnered venue of RSVP and really looked stunning that day with the couple’s choice of jewel tones with grey accents.

The chandelier lit room lent an elegance to the ceremony, as did the fitted white chair covers and a beautiful backdrop, provided by Pearl Decor.

Chris and Claire Wedding-26

Before Claire and her bridal party donned their wedding attire, they made their way to Noir Salon where their make-up and hair were done. Final preparations for the eventful day were made at the RA Centre.

Meanwhile, Chris and his Groomsmen got in their wedding gear at home. Mike and Ness Wedding Photographers caught many poignant moments, but what was especially personal was this cute reminder left for Chris on the kitchen chalkboard, “Don’t Forget the Ring!” (heart) Claire.

Chris and Claire Wedding-119Chris and Claire Wedding-147Chris and Claire Wedding-156

Many of the black and white stills taken that day highlight the details which gave this wedding a retro/classic feel. They caught the shine of the men’s polished shoes and the sparkle of bride’s pumps. Shots of family and friends embracing emphasise the closeness of the families as well as the celebratory atmosphere.

Chris and Claire Wedding--2

Both bride and groom looked Hollywood worthy. Claire’s wedding gown bodice was embellished with tiny sequins and embroidery, which her hair band with tiny leaves and stones complimented nicely.  This bride chose an eye-catching bouquet from RSVP’s florist partner, Beaudry Flowers, comprised of deep purple and pink roses, hydrangea and status.

Chris and Claire Wedding-303Chris and Claire Wedding-345

Chris managed to look both classic and charming. He wore a grey suit complete with dark grey vest, white bowtie on white shirt and a pink rose boutonniere.

Despite the elegant attire, the bridal party really seemed to enjoy their Infinity limo ride to the photo shoot after vows were exchanged... sipping champagne, it was a time to relax, share laughs and enjoy!

Chris and Claire Wedding-2299 Chris and Claire Wedding-2318

While the wedding party and parents of the bride and groom were off to shoot more wedding moments, guests enjoyed cocktails from 3-6 p.m. at the RA Centre, mingled while music played subtly in the background. Dinner followed at 6 p.m. and was served to the beautifully decorated tables with purple cloths and cylinder vases filled with green apples and white hydrangeas.

Quality Entertainment made sure that the guests of all ages as well as the wedding party had reason to kick up their heels on the dance floor. It was a lively gathering of families and friends with Chris and Claire visiting the tables happy to have the opportunity to hug, shake hands and generally share a story or two with the extended family. Another great photo opportunity for Mike & Ness to grab more informal wedding shots.

Finally, before the evening wound up, it was time for the cake cutting. The couple selected a three-tiered white cake from J.S. Creations accented with purple flowers and decorative leaf -like piping in green. A candy buffet was the couple’s way of sending home guests with treats as well as fond memories of the Claire and Chris’ most special day.

Fall 2015 Wedding Trends: From Vintage Classic to Cool

August 14, 2015 / no comments

Fall has always been a fun time to play with a colour palette. Like the leaves floating down from the trees, there are so many hues of red, green, yellow and purple to choose from.

But what stands out this year is the trend towards soft antique shades such as dusky rose and sage green, coupled by the punchier ones of navy or teal.

Let’s take a look at what some of the brides with a theme in mind will be wearing:

A Rustic/Vintage look might mean you can go with a sage green and white combo. Bouquets will add the accents to this muted palate.

RSVP Bouquet suggestion:

White hydrangea, Ranunculus, Roses and Eucalyptus

Or

Asters in burgundy and pink,  Cala lilies with similar coloured roses and green

accents.

For a Vintage with an added sense of fun are jewel-toned gowns. Each maid gets to shine in her own 1920s or 30s original gown. Hair bands, boas or fascinators complete this look, while the bride glows in her own retro white lace.

Large White and Pink Peonies, Roses, Russian Lavender with Ivy pieces, Ferns and ribbon pieces.

A Classy look for fall is the pairing of midnight blue or blackberry with white. Not only is this a classic look, but it is easy to work with and the contrast between bride and wedding party is dramatic.

RSVP Bouquet suggestions:

White hydrangea as the base, add Sonia roses, a dusky pink or a more sassy red. Again eucalyptus ties this together nicely.

A wedding in Teal and Gold is as eye-catching as an autumn afternoon. The rich tones of both of these colours lend themselves well to satin and silk fabrics. Decor-wise: Small lamps and candles hung from branches or in the trees cast a warm glow with this kind of palette

RSVP Bouquet suggestions:

Asters, Calendula, Sunflowers, Zinnia, Cala Lilies and Sumac leaves.

From Rustic/Vintage to Classic – to Playful, Romantic or Chic, the trends of 2015 are as individual as you are.

Cinderella Inspired Wedding

August 12, 2015 / no comments

Genevieve&Patrick-133

Many young girls have dreamed of having a Cinderella inspired wedding – however, it would be hard to find a better example of a “Glass Slipper Day”, than July 18th, 2015, when Genevieve Simoneau and Patrick Wilson said, “I do.” Photographers, Mike &Ness were there to capture the intimate moments as this couple’s wedding tale unfolded.

Genevieve&Patrick-16

Genevieve&Patrick-9Genevieve&Patrick-29Genevieve&Patrick-155

Luck was on their side, and the day dawned bright and warm when the women gathered at The Holiday in Inn in Kanata. Hair stylists and make-up artists from the Capelli Club performed their transformational magic. Curling irons were waved, twisting strands of straight hair into curls, while make-up brushes swept colourful touches on to eyes and cheeks. The hotel room was filled with laughter and shared anticipation of all that lay ahead.

Even the bride’s father checked in to see that all was well, while her mother added the crowning touch to Genevieve’s hair; a beautiful band of white rosettes. Once both the flower girl and ring-bearer were pronounced perfect, the focus was on the last minute details to make sure the bride and her maids looked  their absolute best as well.

Genevieve&Patrick-32 Genevieve&Patrick-36 Genevieve&Patrick-41

Meanwhile, the men were having their own fun getting decked out at the family home. Donned in dark sunglasses, they helped one another adjust collars, smooth wrinkles until it was the moment for a single white rose to be pinned to the groom’s lapel, and time to head inside the church.

At 3 p.m. the wedding party assembled at The Fellowship Christian Church in Barrhaven. In the entrance to the church, streamers of blue and turquoise fabric hung from the church’s ceiling. The ceremony had an old-fashioned flavour, with Genevieve wearing an enchanting strapless full-skirted, white gown and carrying a beautiful bouquet of white roses and blue orchids. Patrick beamed throughout the ceremony and seemed at ease in his dark suit with white shirt and royal blue bow-tie. When the moment came for the couple to exchange their vows, they did so with looks of much tenderness and sincerity.

Genevieve&Patrick-44Genevieve&Patrick-88

And then it was time for the wedding day party to be photographed outside under a smiling sun. Mike &Ness went to work capturing the often unnoticed nuances that highlight such a grand occasion. Meanwhile, guests were invited back to the Holiday Inn for canapés and cocktails.

Genevieve&Patrick-124Genevieve&Patrick-131Genevieve&Patrick-137

There they were treated to a room decked out in a regal looking blue and white. The bows at the head table, reminiscent of the ones from Cinderella. Around the room, blue and turquoise orchids with white roses punctuated the royal blue table cloths. Even the champagne glasses were adorned with princess coach stems, awaiting the most special toast of the day.

Genevieve&Patrick-140Genevieve&Patrick-167

But once the speeches were made and glasses lifted to toast the couple, it was clear that much of the fun was still to come on the lively dance floor. Yet one of the most touching moments of the day was the tender waltz shared by Genevieve and her father.

Genevieve&Patrick-187
Genevieve&Patrick-217

The couple opted for touches of fantasy such as, romantic place cards in blue script which read, “Enchanted Castle,” “Magic Wand,” and “The Pumpkin.” Floating candles were lit in tall vases of blue orchids and glowed warmly from each table. On the dessert table, white and turquoise frosted cupcakes looked inviting and pretty. And of course there was a treat table with whimsical glass jars of candy sticks and chocolate balls.

Perhaps the nicest touch of all, and a reminder for all who celebrated with the couple this day, were the storybook themed bookmarks for each of the guests.

It was truly a magical day with all the special touches that helped make it the beginning of a “Happily Ever After” for Genevieve and Patrick.

August 10, 2015 / no comments

RSVP is excited to be partners with Ottawa’s, The Capelli Club to make your wedding day that much more dynamic. This one-of-a-kind studio, The Capelli (Italian for Hair) Club was created to offer beauty specialists, artists and designers the venue to practice their art. It is a boutique salon which inspires an innovative approach to hair and make-up while offering clients the additional comforts of a cappucino bar and free WIFI. Their location on 10 Bayswater Avenue uses the best hair products such as KMS California, Elumen and MAC cosmetics or make-up of equal quality such as Dior and Bobby Brown.
As part of RSVP’s Wedding-in-a-Box package you too can experience the glamour The Capelli Club offers. Close to wedding day, the bride is sent helpful hair and make-up tips to help keep everything on time and beautiful. For example, Capelli recommends providing the plenty of straws for drinking water, coffee etc. to prevent lipstick from rubbing off.
  • To wash your face thoroughly, removing all make-up and eye-liner prior to the appointment and to exfoliate twice the week before to improve the skin’s appearance.
  • For pinned up hair do- it is important that it be washed the night and kept down and loose before a pinned up style as damp hair will create kinks. They find that freshly washed hair is too squeaky clean and doesn’t hold the pins as well.
  • Two other important things to remember- Don’t forget to bring your hairpieces for the Trail J and to bring your own lipstick to the appointment if you plan to touch up throughout the day/evening.

The Beauty and Hair Specialists at the Capelli Club are happy to provide you with tips and advice during your consultation. They are proud to say that at TCC, “We are all about the details! From the wing of your liquid eye-liner to the fall of that perfect curl…”
