Fall 2015 Wedding Trends: From Vintage Classic to Cool

August 14, 2015 / no comments

Fall has always been a fun time to play with a colour palette. Like the leaves floating down from the trees, there are so many hues of red, green, yellow and purple to choose from.

But what stands out this year is the trend towards soft antique shades such as dusky rose and sage green, coupled by the punchier ones of navy or teal.

Let’s take a look at what some of the brides with a theme in mind will be wearing:

A Rustic/Vintage look might mean you can go with a sage green and white combo. Bouquets will add the accents to this muted palate.

RSVP Bouquet suggestion:

White hydrangea, Ranunculus, Roses and Eucalyptus

Or

Asters in burgundy and pink,  Cala lilies with similar coloured roses and green

accents.

For a Vintage with an added sense of fun are jewel-toned gowns. Each maid gets to shine in her own 1920s or 30s original gown. Hair bands, boas or fascinators complete this look, while the bride glows in her own retro white lace.

Large White and Pink Peonies, Roses, Russian Lavender with Ivy pieces, Ferns and ribbon pieces.

A Classy look for fall is the pairing of midnight blue or blackberry with white. Not only is this a classic look, but it is easy to work with and the contrast between bride and wedding party is dramatic.

RSVP Bouquet suggestions:

White hydrangea as the base, add Sonia roses, a dusky pink or a more sassy red. Again eucalyptus ties this together nicely.

A wedding in Teal and Gold is as eye-catching as an autumn afternoon. The rich tones of both of these colours lend themselves well to satin and silk fabrics. Decor-wise: Small lamps and candles hung from branches or in the trees cast a warm glow with this kind of palette

RSVP Bouquet suggestions:

Asters, Calendula, Sunflowers, Zinnia, Cala Lilies and Sumac leaves.

From Rustic/Vintage to Classic – to Playful, Romantic or Chic, the trends of 2015 are as individual as you are.

Have fun creating your ideal wedding!

FIT INTO YOUR WEDDING DRESS

GET YOUR BODY WEDDING READY WITH THESE TIPS

Hey everyone,

With the wedding season just around the corner, brides want to look good in their wedding dresses. All that pressure can stress a person out completely. There is something about weddings that tend to get brides to watch what they eat and control their weight. Off course you want to look good in that dress, but do it the right way. Loosing weight for some can be a really hard and stressful journey, but throw in the wedding planning, work and everything in between, and you become even more stressed. All the magazines and TV shows don’t help either (we know) : The Last 10 Pounds Bootcamp

boot camp

We have ALL been through it (Except for those that were born with the perfect metabolism and do not put on weight regardless of how much chocolate they eat- :)! Here are 5 of our top tips to staying healthy and still loosing weight.

1. AVOID FAD DIETS- They do not work! You will lose weight, but most of this will be water and muscle giving you the impression that you are dropping the weight. When you stop this diet, it will go right back on again. Instead, avoid fatty foods, skip the fast food all together. Snack on healthy foods, up your vegetable intake. EAT BREAKFAST! Yes we all tend to skip this as women, but it truly causes your metabolism to slow down and you will hang on to that fat instead of burning it. If your job allows you to eat at your desk, have something quick-but healthy. Healthy is the key. No point having a bagel with butter and a large triple triple?

Loose weight with RSVP2.WATER- This is a given, pick up that water and drink lots of it. At least 8 glasses is recommended. We love our waters here, so this is an easy one. Your body can sometimes confuse your body’s cry for water as a need to eat more. Avoid this completely by staying hydrated at all times. And we do not mean, sipping on a diet coke. This does not count.

3. GRAB SOME WEIGHTS/HIRE A PERSONAL TRAINER- Get toned is the key here. Weights will get you tones, and the more toned you are, the more slimmer you appear. Increased tone will increase your metabolism and cause your body to burn more fat, even while you are at rest! We love this. And hiring a personal trainer will take the stress of you if start feeling overwhelmed. This helps a lot, especially if you need the support. We are a big believer of looking good, and feeling comfortable for YOU. Do not do this for anyone but YOU. And have fun with it.

Ottawa fitness

4. SLEEPING BEAUTY. Didn’t get enough energy from sleeping? Now you feel like you need more coffee, energy drink or more food? Get your 6 to 8 hour sleep every night to feel refreshed and rested. This will give you the energy to work out instead of overeating. It happens all the time, as your body is confusing lack of energy for lack of food. Sleep tight!

Sleeping beauty5.SET A GOAL/ KEEP YOUR WEDDING DRESS PHOTO HANDY. How much weight do you want to loose. Write this down and set a realistic goal. This will keep you focused as you are actually working towards something. Keeping a picture of your wedding dress will give you motivation and keep you pushing. Make sure your fiancé does not see it though. Not on your phone.

I hope this helps.

WEDDING DRESS SHOPPING

10 THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND WHILE YOU SHOP FOR YOUR WEDDING DRESS

Shopping for a wedding dress can be overwhelming and stressful for some brides. We have put together 10 useful tips to keep you from going crazy once you actually decide to start shopping for your dream dress.

Ottawa Wedding Dress Tip #1: It takes about 5 to 8 months for your wedding dress to come in. This will greatly depend on which bridal shop you decide to shop with. Most bridal stores ask that you book early to guarantee that you get your dress on time. Book Early!

Tip #2: Leave your entourage at home! Don’t take everyone with you. Take  2 or 3 people with you when you go shop. Taking everyone can become stressful especially with all the different opinions. You are meant to enjoy this moment.

Tip #3: What’s your wedding dress style? We suggest having an idea of what style you would like to go with. Keep your wedding theme in mind as well as the location and time of season of your wedding. Your body shape should also be considered. Not everyone looks good in a ball gown. Choose a style that compliments your body type.

Ottawa Wedding dressTip #4: Budget! Have a budget in mind. Tell the sales person what your budget is and let them help you with a dress that is in and around your wedding budget. No point having them bring you an over the top looking dress to only find out it is way over your budget. Stick to your budget! Remember to set a realistic budget.

Tip #5: Be open minded. Not every dress you see in a magazine will look the same on you. Find a dress that looks good on you.

Tip #6: Saturday is a busy day for most Bridal stores. Find out which day is not busy for the particular store you would like to visit and book your appointment. The sales person will have the time to spend one on one time with you and provide you with the best service.

Tip #7: Make an Appointment! When you find out what day is not the busiest, book a date! We encourage you to still make an appointment so that they are prepared for you.

Ottawa Wedding

Tip #8: Get your hair and Make up done. This will give you a better idea on how the overall look will be! If you can not do this, don’t worry.

Tip #9: If you go up 1 or 2 dress sizes, do not stress. All dresses are made differently. It does not mean you put on weight :)!

Tip #10: Have fun! Only go when you are ready to shop. Don’t shop around as this will only stress you out more.

Happy Shopping! Contact us for more details.

WIN A WEDDING VEIL

WEDDING VEIL

“Knock, Knock, Knock”

That was the first sound I heard this cold snowy winter morning as I awoke, and to my pleasure there was a parcel sitting at the door waiting for me. Is it Christmas already? I thought to myself. I mean, I will never say no to a gift, regardless. As I looked on the box and read the item had arrived from a company called Simply Bridal. Now I was curious. I opened the box and pulled out the most beautiful vintage, lace, wedding veil with a sweet note that said, “share this with one of your clients and tell us what you think.” The veil was full of life with two layers and a small hidden comb to fasten in tight to the hair. Not too short and not too long. The longest layer just hit my waist and the 2nd layer flowed beautifully above.

On the edge of this veil was handcrafted scalloped lace with beautifully situated and dispersed pearls. This was such a romantic look, great for classic, chic or even vintage! I began to think of what client I could share this with. I quickly noticed the bride could have short or long hair and still have it look gorgeous with her dress. In order to really capture the beauty I had my employee model it and took some photos to share with you.

Now its time to take a look at the photos, if you like what you see and your planning your wedding, go to www.facebook.com/RSVPeventsCanada to find out how this veil could be yours.

Your Dream Wedding Dress

July 15, 2013 / no comments

How far would you go to find your dream dress?

Every bride wants THE DRESS, but where do you draw the line? How far over budget are you willing to go, and how far will you travel to get it? If the dress of your dreams was been offered at 50% off 8 hours away, is it worth the travel or do you settle for something similar closer to home?

Contrary to what we see on TV shows, like TLC’s “I Found the Gown”, the potential costs of obtaining the dresses may mean there is no deal to be had. The show is based on a discount bridal boutique (VOWS Bridal Outlet) in Watertown, Massachusetts. The designer gowns they have in stock are anywhere up to 80% off the retail price. Some brides travel across the country or even from outside the country to find the dress their heart is set on. For brides living in the area, what an amazing place! Even people a couple of hours away, who can make it a day trip, do it!

For the rest of us the question is, once you add up the costs of gas, flights or bus tickets, on the road meals and snacks, parking, and potentially a hotel room, how much are you really saving? Do the math, stick to your maximum budget, and try not to go looking with only one dress in mind. Try some dresses that are outside your usual style – and listen to the consultants! They know what they’re talking about! On the other hand, if budget isn’t a problem, travelling can be part of your bridal party adventure, one last single girls’ weekend…

3 things to consider when wearing a short wedding dress

3 things to consider when wearing a short wedding dress

Traditionally, wedding dresses tend to be long. Short dresses are ideal for beach weddings and even a bridal shower if you are having one.

3 things to consider when wearing a wedding dress:

1. Choose a respectable length– Something that goes to the knee or just above it. You don’t it to be too revealing. It’ s your big day and you want to wear something that is appropriate.

2. Think about the shoes– When wearing a long dress, the shoes tend to be hidden. With a short dress, not so much. Make sure the dress and the shoes are a good match. Most Bridal boutiques carry acceptable wedding shoes.

3. A smaller bouquet or something simple- A larger bouquet can take away from the look of your short dress. With a longer dress, you still have all the details at the bottom of the wedding dress to show off. With a shorter dress, carry a simple bouquet to show off the dress.

Shopping for a Wedding Dress

Congratulations on your engagement! Shopping for your wedding dress should be fun and stress free. Who doesn’t like to shop? Brides tend to  feel overwhelmed while shopping for their wedding dresses because it is a big deal!

One of our brides recently shared some Fab news with us, she found “The Dress!” We are extremely excited for her and we are currently counting down the days to her wedding day. Before going out shopping , here are a few things we suggest you do.

Research Wedding Gowns!  – Do some research prior to going out, this will  give you an idea of what it is you are really looking for. Attend a bridal show; they usually put on fashion shows that will give you a better idea of what it is you may want. Wedding blogs, wedding magazines, all provide a wealth of knowledge about dresses- styles, pricing, designs and what not to do. Know what you are looking for before going to any bridal shop. We recommend taking a magazine clip or a few photos of wedding dresses that you like. This is a good start…

Wedding Style! – A few factors can affect what dress you choose to wear on your wedding day. A very formal ceremony normally calls for a floor length gown and sometimes a long train. If you are doing a destination wedding, a shorter gown is most appropriate. Are you looking for a pure white wedding dress? We are seeing a lot of wedding gowns that range from pure white to ivory to champagne to  blush pink. Choose a color that you feel most comfortable in.

Decide on the shape of your dress. Wedding dresses are made in several different silhouettes; Ball gowns tend to have a fuller skirt, A-lines usually have a fitted bodice with a skirt that flares. An empire waist gown has a skirt that falls from just below the bust line. Sheath is usually long and straight and is best worn on a fit bride. A mermaid shape  hugs the body and flares at the knees. Choose something that flatters your figure and brings out the best in you.

Budget! – Even if you are not sure how much the dress will cost, just having a general idea of what you would like to spend always helps. 8% to 10% of your wedding budget is what we recommend setting aside for your wedding attire (Wedding dress, wedding shoes, jewelry etc.). Try to stick to your budget.

Looking for a place to shop in Ottawa? Here are a few bridal shops we love:
