Ottawa Wedding Venue

November 28, 2015 / no comments

Today we focus on the different spaces and areas you can get married in the Ottawa/Gatineau and Surrounding areas. This blog is for those that are finding it difficult to find the perfect wedding venue in Ottawa. Don’t forget these venues can host other special moments such as birthday celebrations, baby baptisms, engagement parties, graduation parties, fundraisers, company retreats, galas and any other special event that you can think of.

I will start with banquet halls. With a little help of lighting and the perfect décor, you can transform any room into anything you can dream of.

Banquet Halls

Think the RA Centre, Tudor hallSt Elias and the Marconi Centre! The good thing about hosting weddings at a banquet hall, is that they come equipped with their own caterer, staffing and all the necessary items you will need to host a great event. You also have the great advantages of decorating them how you want! Some newer venues to also consider is the likes of the Century Planning & Events located about 15 minutes South of Ottawa, the Center is one of Ottawa’s premier wedding and reception venues that you could use to create an unmatched wedding experience.

Farms and Tents

Orchardview weddings & Events, Bean Town Ranch, Temple’s Sugar bush and Strathmere are a few of our farm -like venues that we love. Stonefileds heritage farm can host up to a 120 guests. They offer exclusivity access to their historic farm for your wedding. This venue can offer you the rustic look and its a plus if you are looking for a rustic wedding venue style as you wont need much in terms of decor.

Museums

Looking to spend a few more dollars, consider getting hitched in the newly-renovated Canadian Museum of Nature ! You can do a lot with this gorgeous venue. The Museum offers in-house catering, but you are also more than welcome to choose from a list of their preferred caterers which include Gourmet Cuisine (The in house caterer, Thyme and Again,  Tulips & Maple, By Town Catering and Creative Kosher Catering. Another favourite is the War Museum and the Museum of History. They offer a choice of 3 caterers: Distinction (amazing company- the in house caterer,  the Westin and the East India Company for all the South Asian Weddings.

Other museums worth mentioning include Canada’s Cold War Museum, the gorgeous National Aviation Museum and the National Library and Archives! We love to work with Museums as you can do so much with the space by styling it well. Ottawa offers the best Museum wedding venues in my opinion.

Restaurants

Planning on hosting a wedding at a restaurant, consider a few of these great options- The Courtyard, Restaurant E18htten on York street, NeXT  (AMAZING FOOD) in Kanata &  Lagos bar and grill which over looks the river. These venues are really modern and require little décor. I would use lighting and flowers to get the extra elegant needed touch to make it work. A few honorable mentions include the Urban Element which is extremely elegant, SidedoorMillstreet Pub and Le Cordon Bleu Signatures.

Galleries and Theatres

My two favourite places to host weddings are the  National Gallery of Canada and the National Arts Centre also popularly known as the NAC.   The Cube, Wall Space, and the Great Canadian Theatre Company all offer wonderful open spaces to plan any event.

Outdoor Spaces

Ottawa is definitely a gorgeous city with lots of green spaces. Most locations allow for you to host weddings with a special events permit.  I love, love the Herb Garden Centre! The Herb Garden is Ottawa’s most enchanting and unique location and it is located twenty minutes west of Scotiabank Place (at the corner of Old Almonte Road and Upper Dwyer Hill Road). Keep in mind that planning a wedding at such venue, requires you to bring your own caterers.  Another favourite is the Billings Estate. They do not have restrictions on what caterer to use which is a big plus in my books. The venue is pretty secluded which gives a very private feel to it.

Community Centers

Community centres offer large spaces and are ideal for huge weddings. I love to work with the Glebe Community centre located in the Glebe.  Take a look at this gorgeous wedding captured by Laura Kelly Photography!  Another popular venue is the Wabano Centre located in the Vanier area. Other halls to consider would be the Ottawa University Tabaret Hall , Ukrainian Banquet Hall and the Visitation Banquet Centre !

The Wabano Centre

Hotels

If you are thinking of hosting your wedding at a hotel, think Le Chateau Laurier, The Brookstreet in Kanata and the Ottawa Marriott with it’s 360 revolving room over looking the Ottawa city.

Gatineau Venues

Gatineau Wedding venues – The Gatineau wedding venues that we absolute love is definitely Le Belvedere . Le Belvédère is located a short drive north of Ottawa, nestled on a magnificent cliff near the historic riverside village of Wakefield Québec. It can host about 200 people. This venue is absolutely breathtaking and you would need to pay it a visit yourself to believe it. The ceremony location  over looks the Gatineau Hills-WOW. Have a wedding at the Mill. The Wakefield Mill is located in the Gatineau parks and this makes for beautiful enchanting wedding photos. The price point is very reasonable. Give it a try! Another new location is the Vignoble de Chelsea! I am dying to plan a wedding at this location.

Think Aquatopia water garden conservative! Aquatopia is an elegant, glass-enclosed conservatory, home to a dramatic events venue, on-site café, completely immersive aquatic garden retail experience and the largest indoor water garden open to the public. Evermore Weddings & Events is an elegant country style wedding venue located on 45 acres of farmland close to Almonte!

3 Simple ways to determine your wedding budget

November 27, 2015 / no comments

Today we give you three simple things to keep in mind when determining your wedding budget. They are 3 main factors that will really determine your wedding budget.

Mitch Lenet Photography

1. Number of guests–  It’s no brainer that the more number of guests you have, the more money you will spend.

2. Time of year– The summer months are certainly the most popular time to wed. With only so many Saturdays in Summer, most vendors try to make the most out of this. . Consider getting married during the week days or the off peak seasons. Be prepared to pay more during summer.

3. Style of wedding- Planning a glamorous wedding can definitely up the budget a little. Are you planning on focusing more on the overall look of your wedding? Planning on using lots of flowers? Do you want a lavish wedding cake?

You can certainly have a gorgeous wedding with the right budget. Having a 60 person wedding with gorgeous flowers everywhere, great food and open bar will have better quality than planning a 300 person wedding with bad food. You need to know what it is that is important to you.

Don’t forget to take a look at our popular Wedding in a box Package

Fall 2015 Wedding Trends: From Vintage Classic to Cool

August 14, 2015 / no comments

Fall has always been a fun time to play with a colour palette. Like the leaves floating down from the trees, there are so many hues of red, green, yellow and purple to choose from.

But what stands out this year is the trend towards soft antique shades such as dusky rose and sage green, coupled by the punchier ones of navy or teal.

Let’s take a look at what some of the brides with a theme in mind will be wearing:

A Rustic/Vintage look might mean you can go with a sage green and white combo. Bouquets will add the accents to this muted palate.

RSVP Bouquet suggestion:

White hydrangea, Ranunculus, Roses and Eucalyptus

Or

Asters in burgundy and pink,  Cala lilies with similar coloured roses and green

accents.

For a Vintage with an added sense of fun are jewel-toned gowns. Each maid gets to shine in her own 1920s or 30s original gown. Hair bands, boas or fascinators complete this look, while the bride glows in her own retro white lace.

A Classy look for fall is the pairing of midnight blue or blackberry with white. Not only is this a classic look, but it is easy to work with and the contrast between bride and wedding party is dramatic.

RSVP Bouquet suggestions:

White hydrangea as the base, add Sonia roses, a dusky pink or a more sassy red. Again eucalyptus ties this together nicely.

A wedding in Teal and Gold is as eye-catching as an autumn afternoon. The rich tones of both of these colours lend themselves well to satin and silk fabrics. Decor-wise: Small lamps and candles hung from branches or in the trees cast a warm glow with this kind of palette

RSVP Bouquet suggestions:

Asters, Calendula, Sunflowers, Zinnia, Cala Lilies and Sumac leaves.

From Rustic/Vintage to Classic – to Playful, Romantic or Chic, the trends of 2015 are as individual as you are.

Sussex’s Wedding Boutique Slips Away at the Eleventh Hour

July 24, 2015 / no comments

Just when you thought everything was finally booked and going according to plan, you head to Sussex Drive to gaze at your darling dress one more time. To your surprise you have just learned that the beautiful wedding gown you have had your eye on in the window at McCaffrey Haute Couture is gone! Nonetheless, it is not just your dream dress that has been removed, it is all the other merchandise in the store as well. The windows are dark, the displays are bare and there is a bankruptcy notice hanging from the door. You slowly start to feel your gut turn inside out as you realize your wedding dream dress has just turned into a wedding nightmare!

If this story sounds familiar, you are not alone. It was announced on July 20th that the couture bridal shop we all love to stroll by in downtown Ottawa is now bankrupt! Unfortunately, this means only 50 brides will be receiving their McCaffrey gowns; leaving 20 brides dress-less for their late summer or early fall wedding. This painful short notice leaves very little time for these brides to scramble for something new.

bridal shop

For 18 years, brides from all across Canada and even the world would travel to McCaffrey Haute Couture in hopes of finding the perfect dress. However, the company was almost $400,000 in debt due to owing various creditors. David McCaffrey blames this current state of affairs on the endless years of construction.  Whatever the case may be, RSVP Events along with many other future brides and window shoppers will be sad to say goodbye to the corner boutique we all loved to admire.

RSVP wants to lend a helping hand to these brides as well as any others who have encountered a similar situation, by providing some tips for last minute dress shopping.

1. Bring a close friend

Invite a true friend to come with you dress shopping. Someone who knows your style and will be honest so you can pick a dress that is just as flattering on you as it is on the hanger.

 2. Go to a store where you can actually touch the dresses

Fabrics can look different in pictures; even the dress itself may look completely different when you see it in person.

3. Go to a store with an in-house seamstress

Since you are on a time crunch, meaning no more time for hiccups, an in-house seamstress is the best option. They are familiar with all the dresses they carry and will be able to give you helpful advice for what will work best.

4. Keep an open mind

Try not get caught up in finding your perfect imaginary dress. Let go – and try on all different styles; you might be pleasantly surprised.

5. Don’t worry about getting locked in

If you are really not sure, why not buy two and sell the one you do not end up wearing online. It’s always good to have options :)

6. Buy a dress that fits

Do not buy a dress too small, thinking you will have time to work off some extra weight in-between now and your big day. You most likely won’t!

Sweating For the Wedding: Take Two

June 19, 2015 / no comments

6. Apple Cider Vinegar

If you don’t already know, apple cider vinegar is proven to help you lose weight. This is because the acetic acid suppresses your appetite, increases your metabolism, and reduces water retention! Scientists have also stated that apple cider vinegar interferes with the body’s digestion of starch, which means fewer calories enter the bloodstream.

Read more: http://www.rd.com/slideshows/apple-cider-vinegar-benefits/#ixzz3cqtunLde

You can buy it in a capsule form and take it as a vitamin or you can buy it as a liquid and use it in a delicious salad dressing!

259ecf6a99dff8ae8a6b82532702e7ab

7. Substitutes

When preparing meals, try using healthier alternatives that are better for your body and gracious to your waistline. You will be surprised at how it still has the same enjoyable taste and remaining flavour!

subs

8. Get Some Sleep

Are you one of those people that believe weight loss is 70% diet and 30% exercise? Although, this may have some truth to it, what about the amount of sleep you get? Sleep is another crucial factor that needs to be taken into consideration when trying to lose weight. The reason for this is, sleep is known to suppress your appetite and raises your metabolism, while allowing your body to rest and recover. This being said, it is important to live an active health lifestyle. However, with a full eight hours of shuteye you will be able to maximize results further, and finally loose that weight you have been wanting too!

9. Stop Stressing!

No matter where your stress is coming from, whether it be a close call while driving or managing your money for the wedding,  it triggers the release of chemicals, including adrenaline, CRH, and cortisol. This happens because your brain and body are getting prepared to handle the threat. At first, your adrenaline will suppress your appetite, but once it wears off, cortisol, your “stress hormone” will kick in and send a message to your brain it is time to eat and regain energy. However, when your body is constantly in fight or flight mode, it will store the fat from food around your waist for a quick access to energy as it is getting ready to take action. Therefore, this is how we got the term “stress belly,” because your body is not digesting your food properly and instead storing it to use for energy. With that being said, we recommend finding some simple yoga poses to relieve stress and or use breathing techniques that can help you unwind. We also find the app “Calm” really helps with taking a few minutes a day to let go about any wedding worries.

10. Walk & Talk

Instead of catching up with a friend over drinks on a patio, which of course we all love to do! Why not go for a walk and catch up over a hand packed picnic, this way you can still enjoy a great conversation while squeezing in some exercise and not to mention some healthier munchies. Another great idea is to get your girls together for a group activity once a week, such as a game of tennis or a Pilate’s class. This way, you are staying active while still maintaining a social life; plus it is a ton of fun! You can even plan to all cook a healthy dinner together after your activity; trying new healthy recipes and keeping each other on track.

777fabdfd1f13de0246089e04a3071a17da8a9

They say your wedding day is suppose to be one of the best days of your life, but why not make each day leading up to equally as enjoyable! It’s time to let go and start having some fun, stop stressing and start sleeping and stop juicing and start eating!

Cheers!

Sweating For the Wedding?

June 12, 2015 / no comments

Are you someone who plans on juicing before the big day? If so, you may want to rethink twice before starving yourself to fit in your dress. Many brides are at a loss when it comes to how to lose weight, and think juicing will be a fast and easy way. However, what most brides don’t know is, you can actually gain double the weight once you stop juicing and start eating a regular diet again. This is because your metabolism gets used to not having to break down certain foods therefore causing it to slow down.

However, there is no need to panic! We are here to give some personal tips on how to help you lose weight before the wedding so you can stop juicing and start eating!

1. Eat 5 times a day

Eating throughout the entire day will help you from overeating and help keep your metabolism burning off food all day long.

We personally recommend eating most of your food in the morning. For example, if you eat Breakfast at 7:00 am, then allow yourself a snack at 10:00 am and lunch around 12:00 pm. Therefore, you won’t need as big of portions, which also helps your body burn off more.  We then recommended having a snack at 3:00 pm and dinner at 6:00pm. However, it is important your eating times are planned around your personal schedule, as some start their morning later due to a later work schedule.

2. Infused water

We have all heard how important drinking water is, especially when you are trying to lose weight. However, water sometimes doesn’t satisfy that lingering craving for something sweet. Therefore, why not infuse your water for a fun refreshing taste. There are a number of combinations that have amazing health benefits and can actually help you loose weight! So take advantage of the summer and all the amazing fruits you can find.

Some of our personal favourites: cucumber, lemon & lime | strawberry, lime & mint | grapefruit & orange

18c5a1446c278be057dae0c2293bb2f6

3. Say yes to fat… healthy fats that is

Many people have the misconception that all fats are bad, when in fact this is completely untrue. In fact, a lot of the super-foods that help with weight lose are high in fat. This does not mean we are giving you the green light to head to your local McDonalds. The fats we are talking about are found in foods such as avocados, nuts, egg yolks, coconut and olive oil. The difference is, these fats are the good kinds of fats that can help your body lose weight.

For a better insight to why this is, check out: http://www.livestrong.com/article/557726-eat-fat-to-burn-fat/

241fdf0d0209d2902e39c9f13cf88ebb

4. Superfoods

It’s time to head to bulk barn and stock up on these amazing superfoods!

It is quite obvious how they got their name; these foods are packed with nutrients that offer endless benefits to make you feel good inside and out!

de77b57b506286f555bce1b2e9befe3d

super

If you are wondering what makes them so super, it is because these foods are packed with large amounts of antioxidants, polyphenols, vitamins, and minerals. It is also said that these foods may reduce the risk of chronic disease, and prolong life, and people who eat more of them are healthier and thinner than those who don’t.

5. Sweat!

Unfortunately, it is true; in order to shed those stubborn pounds, exercise is a must, especially if you sit at a desk all day. We recommend exercising at least five times a week. For those of you who cannot bear the thought of spending your precious spare time working out, then why not break it up! 10 mins of yoga in the morning to wake up, 20 min walk at lunch, 15 min bike ride after dinner. You will be surprised how much more energy you will have, not to mention how good it will make you feel!

We hope you enjoy our first five tips; now you can get back on track to feeling amazing inside and out!

Stay tuned for our next five tips coming out next Friday!

Cheers!

FIT INTO YOUR WEDDING DRESS

GET YOUR BODY WEDDING READY WITH THESE TIPS

Hey everyone,

With the wedding season just around the corner, brides want to look good in their wedding dresses. All that pressure can stress a person out completely. There is something about weddings that tend to get brides to watch what they eat and control their weight. Off course you want to look good in that dress, but do it the right way. Loosing weight for some can be a really hard and stressful journey, but throw in the wedding planning, work and everything in between, and you become even more stressed. All the magazines and TV shows don’t help either (we know) : The Last 10 Pounds Bootcamp

We have ALL been through it (Except for those that were born with the perfect metabolism and do not put on weight regardless of how much chocolate they eat- :)! Here are 5 of our top tips to staying healthy and still loosing weight.

1. AVOID FAD DIETS- They do not work! You will lose weight, but most of this will be water and muscle giving you the impression that you are dropping the weight. When you stop this diet, it will go right back on again. Instead, avoid fatty foods, skip the fast food all together. Snack on healthy foods, up your vegetable intake. EAT BREAKFAST! Yes we all tend to skip this as women, but it truly causes your metabolism to slow down and you will hang on to that fat instead of burning it. If your job allows you to eat at your desk, have something quick-but healthy. Healthy is the key. No point having a bagel with butter and a large triple triple?

Loose weight with RSVP2.WATER- This is a given, pick up that water and drink lots of it. At least 8 glasses is recommended. We love our waters here, so this is an easy one. Your body can sometimes confuse your body’s cry for water as a need to eat more. Avoid this completely by staying hydrated at all times. And we do not mean, sipping on a diet coke. This does not count.

3. GRAB SOME WEIGHTS/HIRE A PERSONAL TRAINER- Get toned is the key here. Weights will get you tones, and the more toned you are, the more slimmer you appear. Increased tone will increase your metabolism and cause your body to burn more fat, even while you are at rest! We love this. And hiring a personal trainer will take the stress of you if start feeling overwhelmed. This helps a lot, especially if you need the support. We are a big believer of looking good, and feeling comfortable for YOU. Do not do this for anyone but YOU. And have fun with it.

4. SLEEPING BEAUTY. Didn’t get enough energy from sleeping? Now you feel like you need more coffee, energy drink or more food? Get your 6 to 8 hour sleep every night to feel refreshed and rested. This will give you the energy to work out instead of overeating. It happens all the time, as your body is confusing lack of energy for lack of food. Sleep tight!

Sleeping beauty5.SET A GOAL/ KEEP YOUR WEDDING DRESS PHOTO HANDY. How much weight do you want to loose. Write this down and set a realistic goal. This will keep you focused as you are actually working towards something. Keeping a picture of your wedding dress will give you motivation and keep you pushing. Make sure your fiancé does not see it though. Not on your phone.

I hope this helps.
