4 Things not to DIY for your wedding

November 25, 2015 / no comments

Planning a wedding is definitely very exciting for any newly engaged bride. It can also become extremely stressful very quickly,  especially if you are thinking of planning 90% of it on your own. One wedding trend that seems to be here to stay is the rustic wedding. To save on costs, brides are attempting DIY projects.  It seems like everyone is DIY-ing these days. Whether you’re planning of doing a DIY project because you are crafty or trying to save money they are a few things you should not DIY.

We are going to give you a few tips especially if you plan to DIY: To start, pinpoint all your wedding ideas & have a planned wedding budget! Once this is decided, decide what you will DIY and what should be left to a professional wedding specialist.  We do not recommend DIY-ing the following things.

Bride and Groom: My best friend’s sister’s boyfriend is a photographer! Me: A professional photographer or taking it up as a hobby? Sound familiar? Some of the advantages of hiring a professional  is that they wont know anyone a the event and there is little chance of them mingling and socialising, which could potentially have them not capture an important moment (Speeches, reactions). They would also have all the proper equipment required to shoot a wedding such as lighting and all the different cool lenses. Your wedding photos will be something you treasure for years to come, I am sure you have heard that before! I would suggest spending some money to ensure you get what will be the best thing that you will ever spend your money on!

Wedding Food: Are you considering asking friends or even your family members to make all your favourite dishes? They maybe great at what they do, but catering to a wedding is a huge job on its own. Even if they are able to cater to your entire wedding party, they would need to have all 80 or a 100 plates ready at the same time at the right time. This is hard to do! People love to talk about how great food is, but they will also be the first to talk about bad food. Consider leaving this task to a caterer. You don’t guests referring to your wedding as “the wedding that had horrible food, I went home and ordered pizza!” So true!

Wedding DJ/Music:

Using an Ipod to play your wedding music is never a good idea. We can tell you about all our horror stories but we wont. Hire a professional DJ or band for your peace of mind. They will also make basic announcements through out the wedding about important milestones coming up through out the day. Guests might also want to make requests during the reception and a DJ or a band would know when to play it and if it is appropriate.

Wedding planner: Yes you have friends that can assist on the day (go back to point 1. about hiring friends or family members). You can choose to hire a planner for the duration of the wedding planning process or someone just on the day. This will make a huge difference between making your wedding feel like it was truly handmade vs. well put together and organized. A professional planner will ensure you a stress free day and ensure all your DIY items work with your theme.

SAVE THE DATE: It might be the slow times for a lot of the wedding vendors, but it’s a busy season for a lot of people. Not only is it busy, but it is an expensive time of year with all the holiday shopping, vacations and people taking time off to enjoy the holidays. Your guests may have other commitments and you need to ensure you give them plenty of time & notice for the wedding. You can do this by sending save the date cards as early as 4-5 months prior to the big day.

COZY UP: Think of your guests and how you are going to keep them warm. Provide lots of options to keep your guests warm and comfortable especially during the ceremony and cocktail hour. Make sure you provide some wraps for guests to cover up, hot drinks for right after the ceremony and ask your venue if they provide heating items such as heat lamps, a fireplace area or even heated floors.

WEDDING TIMELINES: Unlike a summer wedding, during winter it gets dark pretty quickly. You need to consider how your day will play out when creating a time line. Photo opportunity is very limited during winter. Give yourself plenty of time for this. Because it gets dark pretty fast, lighting is  very important. Ensure you have lots of lights around your venue for photo purposes. Winter wedding planning

WARM WINTER MENU: Find great and creative ways to incorporate winter themes into your menu. Think of having a hot chocolate station or serve mulled wine and cider! Be creative. Your guests will appreciate this. Coffee and baileys any one? mmmm

5 Ways to Wow your wedding guests

November 20, 2015 / no comments

Do you want your wedding to stand out? Planning a wedding that truly reflects your needs is the key to having a unique wedding! Follow our 5 tips to ensure a great event!

1. First thing on our list is PERSONALIZATION: Make this wedding about you! The overall theme, feel and look of your wedding needs to be a reflection of the two of you. What makes you, YOU! Think of something you unique that reflects the both of you. If you like to travel, why not create a slide show with all the cool and awesome places you have travelled too? Do you like wine? Why not host your wedding at a vineyard? Have your guest sample different wines and cheeses during cocktail hour. Use some wine barrels and corks as part of your wedding décor.

2. Have an ORGANIZED wedding! Having an event planner will definitely help you stay organized and on track for the big day. Most wedding planners have a wedding monthly to-do list, wedding timelines, budgets and will help keep you on top of all your wedding appointments. Read our blog about what to do when feeling overwhelmed!

3. Giving your guests a great EXPERIENCE is the key to keep people talking about your wedding for years to come. How can we achieve this? By setting the right atmosphere, great food, awesome entertainment and by ensuring your wedding is very personal. Here are 9 awesome ways to entertain your guests!

4. You have to hire a professional WEDDING PLANNER! Wedding planners work for you to ensure you have the wedding of your dreams! We are the main contact between your wedding vendors and yourself. You don’t need to worry about all the little things on the day of your wedding! Just enjoy the day! To find out more about what we can do for you, contact us today!

5. We already mentioned this, but please HAVE FUN! Planning a wedding is definitely stressful! After all the planning, the day is now here! Try to enjoy it as much as possible as it does go by really fast. If you hired a professional wedding planner, you should have nothing to worry about!

Table set up with Wedding Menus

November 19, 2015 / no comments

I love the little touches that wedding menus bring to the table. They can be used as added wedding décor. I usually tell my clients that the menus are definitely optional and are not a must. They are definitely good to have!  The advantages of having a table menu is to let  your guests know what meals will be served, what is coming next after each course and sometimes the ingredient involved with a specific meal.

Here are some gorgeous menus for inspiration:

Wedding Planning-Feeling overwhelmed?

November 15, 2015 / no comments

Planning any event in general can get overwhelming, stressful and a lot to handle. Between juggling a career for some, school and even kids, it gets hard to find the extra time needed to deal with all the little details that is involved in planning a wedding. We are hoping our tips will allow you to feel more relaxed and ready to tackle the tasks involved in planning a wedding!

Melanie Rabane Photography

Lists

– Create a timeline outlining all the major tasks that needs to get done. For each task that you outline, allocate an appropriate amount of time to get through that particular task. You might also want to delegate some tasks, eg. : 1. Groom: Create realistic wedding budget 2.Bride- Source out potential wedding venue.  Set aside one day a week to talk about your progress and what you have accomplished. If you don’t get to a task (because life happens, as we all know), don’t stress yourself.  Adjust the due date!

Decision making

-Take your time deciding on the vendors that you want to book. Deal with one vendor at a time as this can become overwhelming. Schedule all your payment to stay on top of it.

Have an Overall Picture

– Have an overall idea of what you would like your wedding to look and feel like. Create a list of the must have items vs. it would be nice to have if the budget allows list. Stick to your plan as much as possible otherwise things can start to get stressful very fast. If you mind is set on getting a photobooth but you do not have the budget for it, let it go if it is on your “it would be nice to have list if the budget allows”. Definitely compromise as much as possible. I would greatly suggest making this list as soon as the budget is created. It will make it very easy on you.

Wedding in a box package

– As wedding planners we offer amazing wedding package to suit any bride and grooms needs. Take a look at our Wedding in a box package as a possible option. Wedding in a Box is an all-inclusive bundle that offers all the major elements of planning a high-end, quality dream wedding at an affordable price with little to no hassle or stress.

Ottawa Wedding Decorator- Who decorates my wedding venue?

November 13, 2015 / no comments

Everyone loves wedding decorations. Whenever I meet a new bride, the number ONE item on the list to discuss is the wedding décor! The excitement makes me smile all the time!  And because we are wedding planners, we get asked “Do you decorate my wedding venue as well?”

Ottawa Wedding Decorator

Wedding planners and wedding designers/stylists/decorators have different roles that they play when it comes to your big day! A wedding planner works with the bride and groom for the year leading up to the wedding, making all the big plans that will ensure that your wedding is as smooth as possible. We bring with us the skills and knowledge to plan a flawless wedding as well as gathering the right team and vendors to ensure your vision comes to life.

On the day of the wedding, we are onsite as early as 9am making sure the floor plan is correct, the vendors know where to set up, everyone that was booked for the day are onsite doing what they need to do. Most of these tasks can take up to 5 hours, this almost makes it impossible to commit on decorating the hall as well. A wedding planner can recommend a professional wedding decorator or stylist to bring your wedding vision to life.

The decorator or stylist will come with all the necessary décor and team to put your vision in place. They will also provide a tear down team at the end of the day. In terms of budget, they work well with any budget depend on your needs. Your wedding planner will often recommend the best wedding decorator in the area based on your style and budget. Most wedding planners in the city are also wedding decorators. Find out what your wedding planner can do for you!
